Throughout the Engaging the Spiritually Open report, we’ve focused on the beliefs, perceptions and practices and spiritually Open nonpracticing Christians and Open non-Christians. This curious cohort has signaled that they’re open to the spiritual life, even though many of them carry the wounds of Church hurt and Christian hypocrisy. The spiritually Open represent an enormous discipleship and evangelism moment for the Church.
In this downloadable field guide, leaders will find practical ideas to put the data insights you’ve read about in this journal into action. The field guide may be helpful for individual use, but it’s intended to work well for ministry teams—at the least, we hope it makes its way into conversations and next steps beyond your own reading.
We’ve divided the guide into three C’s: Communication (related to sermons and teaching through your leadership), Conversation (related to interpersonal interactions, inside and outside the Church) and Congregation (related to formation and service among churchgoers). Each section is loaded with questions for reflection and practical tips to equip yourself and your congregation with discipleship and evangelism skills they can share inside and outside of your church.
