This week’s Barna Minute looks at who—or what—impacts Christians’ understanding and practice of forgiveness.
In a recent survey conducted with The Genius of One, Barna data show only one in four Christians says their pastor or church community (25% each) have impacted their understanding of forgiveness. This is significantly less than those who say their family members (59%), the Bible (42%) or even their friends (39%) have helped them understand how to forgive.
A significant portion of pastors and Christians even share why they’ve struggled with extending forgiveness to others in the past, noting broken trust (47%), hurt (43%) and anger (31%) as top factors. Pastors also say pride often gets in their way (61%).
